 PlayStation Vita Hardware/Software Sales Improving

Japanese sales figures for both hardware and software are now in for the week ranging from January 23rd to January 29th. And while things aren't looking great for Sony in terms of PlayStation Vita sales (or even good, for that matter), sales have improved. Not only did PlayStation Vita sell more during this week than the previous week, but a new Vita release is also near the top of the software charts.

Sales figures translated by Andriasang show the PlayStation Vita having sold 18,942 units during the week in question, an improvement of over 3,700 Vitas from the week before. While still being outsold by Nintendo's 3DS by a ratio of over 4:1, any sign of improvement is a good sign for Sony.

Namco Bandai's Tales of Innocence R, an improved port of the Nintendo DS Tales of Innocence, sold extraordinarily well during this week as well, placing third overall on the software charts. 54,853 games were sold at retail, and that number doesn't take into account digital downloads via the PlayStation Network. No other PlayStation Vita games charted in the top 20 software sales chart.

During the same week, 3DS sold 84,789 units, while Sony's older handheld, PSP, sold 16,008 units. PlayStation 3 pushed 22,924 units during the week, outselling Microsoft's Xbox 360 by a ratio of over 18:1. Nintendo's Wii also continues to do respectably, selling just over 10,000 units.

Armored Core V topped the sales charted, releasing on PlayStation 3 and pushing 163,906 units at retail. The Nintendo 3DS game Resident Evil Revelations came in second with 146,559 units sold. Mario Kart 7 and Monster Hunter 3G, both for Nintendo 3DS, rounded out the top five, with 29,230 units and 27,032 units sold respectively.

Given the review it got from Famitsu, it looks like it'll do well.

Gravity Rush will give it a boost in sales at least for the next few weeks. Can't wait to get my hands on that game.

I actually got to play a Vita today at Best Buy.

At first glance...when you first pick it up, you feel like "Oh this is a PSP thats huge as !! with analogs and a really nice screen"

Then after using the touch(!!s REALLY responsive and smooth...I dont like Touch Screens to much but the !!s so responsive its dope) and cycling through, it hits you that its more than just a huge[..] PSP with a nice screen lol.

Its not only touch screen on the front, but the entire back panel of the system is touch as well, you can control whats going on through that.

Its a bit overpriced...and considering how Sony really didnt support the PSP to well IMO....Its gone be hard for me to wanna buy one.

Its nice as !! though, its definitely the best handheld design i've seen.

Nearly 19,000 units? Somebody call the press, we have a major story on our hands.

If I was still a boy, I'd want this !! in my life instantly though. Never grow up Jesszman, you're at the age we all wish we could stay at for the rest of our lives. I envy you.

Androids are about to have graphic better than PSP vita and next year will have 360 level of graphics.

Judging buy the original PSP and how Sony basically stop supporting it in the us. It will be hard for me to get a PSP vita especially with the price tag of the memory card. I got n3ds because last Gen there was far superior games on nds than psp. With Sony bleeding money and the terrible start of PSP vita. It will be hard for me to support it.

2.) The games: Androids have some, most of which are just through emulation so it doesn't even count, but most are !!ty and the best of them could never compete with GBA games, let alone PSP, 3DS or Vita games.

I own every system except for the vita. Vita problem is the overprice price tag and bad taste left from the original PSP.

Also there are some great games coming out for android and I pad.

Add the fact Sony also make PlayStation certified android tablets.

How long do you think it will take Sony build an android tablet and phone that will play PSP vita games so they can compete with apple.

^ Same here lol.

I played em on my PSP too tho.

I went to best buy again this morning to pick up Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3....While there I played with the vita some more.....

That price tag needs to drop 200 more bucks before I even think about spending bread on it.
