Operation Smash was officially announced today, with the release of its first trailer. Currently in development by Steve Olofsson, Operation Smash is a 2D platformer about two friends who become lost when they travel back in time. The details are still relatively sparse, but Olofsson claims that the story will be slightly different depending on which of the two friends players select to play as.
Operation Smash boasts over 100 rooms to explore in seven different areas. New weapons are found in each area, allowing the two protagonists to better equip themselves against the more challenging enemies. The game also includes a Hardcore more and a Speedrun mode, offering additional replayability.
In a recent developer blog post, Olofsson said he had two of his friends playtest the current build of Operation Smash, and it took each of them around four hours to complete. He also spoke out about the difficulty of making a trailer for his own game. “Its hard to boil down what you have been working on for so long into a 1-2 minute video,” Olofsson said, “…I played as good as possible and that’s not always good, because then it can look too easy.”
