Microsoft GM Accidentally Confirms the Next Xbox

Microsoft GM Accidentally Confirms the Next Xbox
By Da Ill One - 08-06-2012, 08:45 AM - Boxden > BX GameSpot

In todays "No !! sherlock" news MS confirmed what we all knew was happening anyway, but a confirmation is always good to have....

We all know it’s coming -but there has been no word from Microsoft that they are working on a new console. Until now.

Microsoft executives have been militant in refusing to comment on whether they are working on a new Xbox, but last week came an accidental confirmation that the next Xbox is definitely in development.

The very senior body at Microsoft, Brian Hall General Manager of Windows Live, was interviewed on The Verge’s podcast by Nilay Patel. The discussion was focused on the launch of Outlook.com where he said it was being released for a new wave of MS products including ‘the New Xbox.’

The transcribed quote is:

“We’ve had Hotmail and operated Hotmail for about sixteen years, we obviously have Exchange, and Outlook, that people use at work. We just decided it was time to do something new and bring the best from each of those and put them together and release it right in time for the new wave of products that we could have coming out with Windows 8 with the new version of Office with the New Windows phone and the new Xbox.”
You can hear it on the YouTube video of the podcast between 1m 17s and 1m 41 seconds.

Granted it is not a lot of information. But mark this day down on your calendar because Microsoft have, albeit accidentally, confirmed the next Xbox!

While discussing new Outlook email service, Microsoft general manager Brian Hall namedrops "new Xbox" but does not share more.

After significant speculation spread over the span of years, Microsoft has finally spoken on-record about its next Xbox. During an interview with The Verge focused on Microsoft's new Outlook email service (embedded below), general manager Brian Hall name-dropped a "new Xbox."

There will be a new Xbox, but when will it arrive?
“We’ve had Hotmail and operated Hotmail for about 16 years, we obviously have Exchange, and Outlook, that people use at work. We just decided it was time to do something new and bring the best from each of those and put them together and release it right in time for the new wave of products that we could have coming out with Windows 8, with the new version of Office with the new Windows phone and the new Xbox,” Hall said.

Hall did not share further details on the next Xbox, and Microsoft had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment as of press time. Windows 8 will launch on October 26 alongside Microsoft's new Surface tablet line.

The analyst consensus is that the next Xbox, as well as the PlayStation 4, will be on store shelves for holiday 2013. A recent 56-page document supposedly originating from Microsoft said the next Xbox would launch in 2013 at $299 bundled with the second iteration of Kinect, among other updates. As for the PS4, PlayStation executive Andrew House said in June that Sony's new console would not be shown until a "significant leap" over the PlayStation 3 could be demonstrated.

i really gotta look and see what they will do differently or will be improved because if these are going to be basically a ps3 and 360 with move and kinect built in itll take a price drop for me to even buy

it doesnt look like its going to be the graphical leap that the ps2 was to ps3 or xbox to the 360 and if its the difference between a pc and the current gen then im comfortable waiting

Why is this such a big deal? We all pretty much know Microsoft wasn't going to bow out the gaming market. The only news we should care about is what and when at this point. It's a given that the big 3 are gonna come out with something.

So in the next decade, we will have an Xbox 1440? That whole "360" name is dumb.

not really notice how your more concerned about the number instead of the Xbox.. means Xbox is already a household name they could name it Xbox 69 and ud still buy it.
