Is GTA the best video game series of all time?

Who else thinks so? San Andreas is arguably the best video game of all time...gta3 was so ahead of it's time.

Not to mention vice city and san andreas having the best soundtracks of all time in a video game...the music fits the atmosphere perfectly.

It brought in a major shift into gaming, the popularity for huge streaming worlds/free roaming, so yeah its a pretty powerful brand in gaming. I don't know about all that best series in gaming talk though.....

Allow me to elaborate. First off, San Andreas is arguably the best sandbox game of all time, but if you've played consoles other than just the PS2, you shouldn't even think San Andreas could be the best video game of all...unless of course you think Don't Be A Menace is the best movie of all time...in which case, please refer to my previous post.

And 2nd off, I don't see how GTA3 was ahead of its time. In fact, it was right on time. It'd be ahead of its time if the game got slept on then many years later everyone started to look back on it and start appreciating it then. But when GTA3 came out everyone, consumers and developers alike, saw how great the game was and were all over it, which is why we were given s**t like The Getaway and True Crime and countless other GTA-clones.

A sandbox game that really was ahead of its time would be Urban Chaos which is GTA3+True Crime, but came way before both games.

i agree GTA is the best game franchise of all time.

but dont get it twisted, driver started this 3D gangster s**t, i remember when that game dropped me and my friends would say damn if only they could combine the visuals of driver with the gameplay of GTA ....a few years later GTA 3 came out and motherf**kers where wilin for that s**t like it was weed.

i still remember niggas comin around my place trying to swap their new jordans and half an ounce of weed for my copy when it sold out in stores....i was like "hell naw!!!" lol

Sorry about this thread lol, I restarted vice city earlier today and was just blown away...the whole atmosphere of miami, the music, scenery...just got me mindf**ked.

I am old enough to have played the classics like zelda, final fantasy, etc, but no game compares to gta..IMO I don't see how gta isn't the best franchise.

Nah not even close. Its up there in Top 10 maybe.

Final fantasy is overrated!

GTA is definitely a Top 5 franchise, but it ain't that close to the top spot for me. I'd put the Legend of Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, Super Mario and Street Fighter franchises above it.

Like everyone said Zelda and MGS, GTA had 6 games and only 3 were classics.
