What do you get when you take Xbox Live, OnLive, Steam, and Facebook and mix them all together? You get GFACE. GFACE is an online multiplayer service, similar to the likes of Valve’s Steam, that aims to re-educate us over what we know about online gaming. So what exactly is GFACE? GFACE is essentially a social network for gamers, that is being endorsed by CRYTEK, the makers of Crysis.

Its user-interface highly resembles that of Google+ in that it’s slick, easy to use, and offers as much info as possible, without the business of other services out there. When you sign into GFACE, you’ll be greeted by what looks like a feed of status updates, interests, and other information about what your friends are up to.

Like other social networking sites that are available, GFACE lets you post status updates, upload pictures, videos, and even music. Want to share the photos of that trip you took? Or maybe you’re planning a clan war and you need to organize the plans and formations with your team. GFACE lets you do that. Uploading files is as easy as dragging them from their folder straight onto your GFACE, nice and simple.

Taking a page out of Google+, GFACE enables you to separate your real life from your gaming life by adding people to Groups. Groups are well, groups that you create that contain people you add to them. If you don’t want your friend on the other team to know about your clan plans, just add him to your “Enemy” group that you’ve created. Now, he can’t see what you’re working on. Better yet, why not just create a “Clan” group, that way, you can share everything you need to with your clan while simultaneously keeping it separate from anything else your GFACE friends see. It’s that simple.

Alright, so we’ve talked about the core social networking features of GFACE, you’re probably tired of that and want to know what GFACE has to offer you, as a gamer, that other services don’t. Well by downloading GFACE’s plug-in, you are able to play games without leaving your web browser. I know, it sounds like Gaikai, and that’s understandable because on the surface, that’s what it is. But what differentiates it from Gaikai or even OnLive, is how the aforementioned Groups works with the gaming portion of GFACE. When playing a game within your desired browser, GFACE allows you to take the people in your groups, or friends list and have them watch you play! This allows you to easily broadcast live streams to your YouTube subscribers, friends, or even coworkers. While playing, you can engage in a real-time text chat without it interrupting whatever game you happen to be playing.

The best part about GFACE gaming is that it’s not limited to just computer gaming. GFACE will be available as an application on smartphones and tablets in the near future. Even better is that you can still team-up with your friends that are on the computer-based GFACE while you’re on your tablet or smartphone. The only difference is that, for certain games, you’ll be providing more of a support role for your teammate who could be a soldier in the front-lines of a war game.

So we’ve brushed up on what GFACE has to offer, and by now, either you sound interested or maybe you don’t. If you are interested, and wish to give this service a spin, just head on over to GFACE’s website and sign up for the closed beta. If you’re lucky enough, GFACE will get back to you with an invite into the world of GFACE.
