G4 to change directions - Report

NBC Universal's G4 television network, in its present form, may be coming to an end. Variety reports that the American network, home to game-focused programs like Attack of the Show and X-Play, is undergoing a rebranding that may involve a name change and a shift in content that will make it reminiscent of men's magazine GQ.

The site's sources did not divulge what G4 may be re-branded as, but said the changes are expected to happen sometime in 2013. As of press time, the network had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

In addition to its regular programming, G4 also covers numerous annual conventions, including the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the Consumer Electronics Show, and Comic-Con.

Several high-profile G4 employees have left the network recently, including former Attack of the Show host and field reporter Kevin Pereira, as well as X-Play's outspoken talking head Adam Sessler.

I have a feeling that Sess/Pereira left because of this. Yes, G4 might not be 100% about games anymore but i would rather have that then a stupid !!ing GQ channel.

Hopefully Sessler joins up with the Giant b0mb guys and doesn't waste his potential at a !! hole place like IGN.

When Sessler and K-Per left I was done. I mean, the network as a whole was just terrible anyway after they started doing the hipster shows and less about gaming, but this puts the nail in the coffin. Even their E3 coverage sucked balls, I would rather watch GameTrailers anyday.

Good riddance. There was nothing worth watching on there anymore cept Sara Jean Underwood and Olivia Munn when they were co-hosts.

Next company that does a channel like this needs to get it right.

Damn I loved that channel when it first came out, I was like 10. When Sessler left a couple of months ago I quit giving a !! about that channel.

Sorry[..] American Ninja Warrior comes on... !! is so weak and less as intense as the og.

I watched this channel for the first time in awhile the other day and the white dude that worked with Dave Chappelle was hosting a show. He must hate Dave.

Man I miss the old G4 I bought the first[..]assins Creed because I seen gameplay on there.

Ninja Warrior is still going tho, the American one is just a spinoff.
