Dead Island Logo Censored in N.A.

The North American release of Dead Island will not feature the hanging zombie on the game's boxart.

A Deep Silver representative confirmed to IGN the logo will be censored on the front of the game box, but the in-game logo will remain unchanged. The boxart and in-game logo for Dead Island will remain unchanged for its release in Europe.

The censored logo does away with the hanging zombie and changes it so the zombie is simply walking on the ground.

Censored logo for North American boxart

The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) previously censored the cover for Left 4 Dead 2 back in June 2009, making Valve add additional fingers to the iconic zombie hand.

The ESRB has not responded to requests for comment about the Dead Island logo at this time. Dead Island is currently scheduled for release in 2011.

In hindsight, it was a strange idea to begin with.

If the theme is k!lling rabid zombies, in what world would hanging them ever be an option?

They say it represents a hanging zombie but to me it clearly represents a person. They just tried to get away with a shock move and got caught for it.

It's offensive to the mainstream, plain and simple.

And like I said before, it was clearly for shock value. A game that involves building weapons to k!ll zombies...

has a guy or zombie hanging from a tree? Yeah, that idea doesn't really fly.

^if there is hanging in the game that's cool....but its pointless to put that on the logo..... why risk a lost in sales to be "creative"

say if call of duty made a game dedicated to nazi zombies..... they wouldn't make this the cover [pic] [pic]

i know that's a exaggeration since you can't[..]ume dude being hung is black..... but images of hangings and nooses aren't welcoming to blacks..... i'm not offended, i'm sure several others wouldn't be, but why risk it [pic]
