Max Boxing Predictions
Thomas Gerbasi - Cotto TKO6
Doug Fischer - Cotto W 12 Judah
(Cotto might get clipped and hurt at some point, but I don't think he'll hit the canvas - and even if he does, I think he's proven to have the heart and grit to get up and take care of business. Judah has never shown the heart to fight back when someone takes his heat and delivers in kind and I don't think he'll be able to do so vs. Cotto. He may, however, be able to last the distance given his fleet feet and Cotto's rather plodding nature..)
Steve Kim- Cotto KO11 Judah
(after a quick start, Judah gets slowed down by Cotto's constant pressure and body attack.)
Ernest Gabion - Cotto TKO9
(for all the "this Judah will be focused" talk we see every fight I do think he will be a better version of what we have seen of late (against Baldomir and the 2nd half of Mayweather). However, I don't think he can get Cotto out and Cotto is to me the more skilled boxer in there.)
Allan Scotto - Cotto by KO 7th or 8th round.
Eric Raskin- Cotto KO 8
(Just like Mike Tyson in the last decade or so of his career, Judah has turned into a four-round fighter. He will indeed be dangerous for those first few rounds, and an upset kayo isn't out of the question. But more likely, Cotto survives that early storm and takes Judah apart bodyshot by bodyshot.)
Tim Graham- Cotto, UD-12
(There are four different blueprints out there on how to beat Zab Judah. There are none on Miguel Cotto, who is talented enough to beat Judah by brawling or boxing. Unless the slippery Judah gets really careless, however, Cotto will have trouble producing a knockout.)
JC Casarez - Judah by upset TKO
(.Great fight between 2 guys in different places in their careers. Cotto is vulnerable to the attack that comes from the southpaw stance mainly the right hook, Look for Judah to land this punch early and ofter to the side of Cotto's head. Once Cotto's hurt look for Super Judah to turn on the heat causing the ref to stop the fight. The Comeback kid is back!!)
Jason Probst - (No Pick)
(Cotto is a gem at 147 pounds. Not quite the perfect fighter he can appear to be at times -- especially against a slickster like Judah -- but a wonderful body puncher and solid technician whose game gets better with each outing. Judah could give him problems with his fast, snap-bang punches, but at the end of the day Zab is a front runner. If you put the pressure on him and keep him occupied his game disintegrates. Cotto is not going to lose on the weekend of the Puerto Rican Day parade any more than I'm going to go door to door campaigning for Dennis Kucinich. He's got the mustard and the mojo and he'll take Judah out in an impressive victory, even if he gets his blocked knocked off while coming in flat-footed.)
Armando Alvarez - Zab Judah TKO 10 Miguel Cotto
(When people listen to my prediction on this fight they look at me like I'm crazy, spend a weekend smoking pot with Ricky Williams, or just don't know what the hell I'm talking about. I truly believe Zab Judah will win this fight, and will win by late stoppage or decision. Miguel Cotto is seen as the second coming of Felix Trinidad, or Oscar de la Hoya, etc. That he is not. Cotto hasn't really impressed me all that much. The kid can fight, and has a HUGE heart, can't take that away from him, but I don't think he's a elite fighter. If he beats Judah convicingly then I will have to eat my words and will wear my dunce hat sitting in a corner on Sunday morning, but I think Cotto is too slow and gets hit way too much to beat Judah. People knock Judah for not training, and for fading in fights. But we must agree, when he trains he's a very good fighter. He sure didn't fade in his second fight with Cory Spinks, and did something 160 pound Jermain Taylor failed to do, knock out "The Jinx". If he comes and fights like he did versus Mayweather (minus the low blow and punch to the back of the head) and boxes Cotto for the first few rounds, the fight is his. He can frustrate the slow Cotto with his hand speed, and Judah hits a lot harder than a lot of people, including himself, give him credit for. I told him that before he fought Spinks the second time, and he proved me right. If he comes in focused and well trained, he will win. Cotto got hit a lot against Oktay Urkal, and Urkal is nothing. If he had any pop he would've knocked out Cotto. Maybe I am wrong, and am crazy, but for now I think I'm sane and believe Judah will win. We shall see Saturday. (FYI: My Puerto Rican coworker wants to kill me after listening to my prediction.)
Lee Groves - Cotto W 12 Judah
(The atmosphere at Madison Square Garden will be absolutely electric and will harken back to the building's glory days, and because of that both men will be at their best. Cotto wants to stamp himself as a superstar against the best opponent he has yet faced while Judah is a desperate fighter eager to get back on top. Cotto is naturally bigger, stronger and a bonebreaking puncher. He doesn't just hit you, he punishes you and ruins you. The faster Judah will likely win the early rounds, but like Chavez against Taylor Cotto will be doing the little things on the inside that will add up in the later rounds. I see this fight going the route because of Judah's sheer toughness, and I see a 115-113 or 116-112 type decision in Cotto's favor)
German Villasenor - Cotto gets off canvas, stops Judah late
(Still iffy on Cotto's chin, Judah's speed and power will exploit the perceived weakness, dropping a determined Cotto a couple of times, going into the late round's in which Judah begins to lose focus (as it is often the case) getting reckless and being tagged hard and often in return. Judah gets stopped late in the fight in a barn burner)
Brett Conway - Cotto KO 10
(Judah will do well early, get beat down by a vicious body attack, and fold late in the fight. What should be a great Cotto victory will be marred by a Judah-esque incident, however.)
Javier Molina - Cotto by KO
(Zab does not have the chin to take Cotto's Punches. The fight should be very intertaining but Cotto should win by way of KO in the later rounds.)
Martin Mulcahey - Give me Cotto W 12
(For me this one is simply. Consistency over flash, plus Judah can never put five good rounds together. Once Zab loses concentration Cotto pounces and scores a knock down, from then on it is a repeat of the Baldomir vs. Judah fight and Cotto wins a unanimous decision.)
