Maximus is a stud, I can't wait to see him in the cage!!
===========================
The American Top Team Web site announced today that lightweight fighter Marcus “Maximus” Aurelio has signed a four-fight contract with the UFC, saying “Marcus is extremely excited about fighting for the UFC and competing in this talented division.“

Aurelio is a Brazilian fighter with a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu who trains with the Florida-based American Top Team. Other American Top Team fighters include Din Thomas, Jeff Monson and Thiago Alves.

Aurelio sports a 14-4 MMA record and has fought primarily in PRIDE Fighting Championships Bushido events. PRIDE Bushido was a series of PRIDE events focused on the lighter weight fighters such as lightweight and welterweight, which featured rule changes to enforce a mantra of constant action.

Aurelio is perhaps best known for his defeat of PRIDE lightweight champion Takanori Gomi at PRIDE Bushido 10 in April 2006. In the fight, Aurelio caught Gomi in an kata-gatme submission (arm triangle side choke) in the very first round of the match. Gomi and Aurelio then faced each other again in a rematch at PRIDE Bushido 13, where Gomi won a close split decision.

Aurelio is the latest in a long line of direct acquisitions of top PRIDE talent by the UFC and WEC in the wake of the acquisition of PRIDE by Zuffa LLC, the parent company of the UFC. Aurelio joins the ranks of former PRIDE fighters such as Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Dan Henderson and Paulo Filho who are now signed to fight in the Zuffa-owned UFC or WEC.

Aurelio may be a potential opponent for Roger Huerta at UFC 74. UFCjunkie.com recently reported that Roger Huerta had been added to UFC 74 to face an as-of-yet unnamed opponent. UFC 74 is currently scheduled for Aug. 25, 2007 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
