Conversation with an Atheist

What I want to say
is what you refuse to believe:
that blessings differ from dumb luck,
that wisdom can be imparted from ancient gospel,
that soulful hymns permeate mortals
with the divine euphoria of the holy spirit.

Instead I listen to your jabbering,
claims that religion is groundless,
unproven by science, unfounded by history,
as illogical as mythology or voodoo.

So I ask you, what is this world without faith,
but a sabotaged wasteland of doorway junkies,
dirty needles, and fear; what are people
without hope, except sad little breathing machines
listlessly waiting for the arrival of the future.

You have no response, and I didn’t expect one,
despite your ample intelligence. After all,
only a supreme being can answer such questions,
the very God you refuse to acknowledge.

You always drop gems that make people think. Religion isn't my forte, but I've had a conversation with an atheist and that person was making the same "points" that you had in your poem. For the record, I'm an Agnostic (some people get Ags and Aths mixed up)
