Fickle UK industry... seen it for years. Soooo many come and go man... you wouldn't believe. You can be buying an album off someone one day a few years later you buying car insurance off of them... ahh well...

Reason i said this is, i aint even heard of this Professor Green guy... lol! every few weeks theres some new guy out nowadays... mostly talking about the same dribble.. Still, i'll listen to this audio battle later, see how it went from my perspective. A LOT of rappers i know soon fall the f**k off the face of the earth once they realise there is virtually NO money to be made from the UK scene.. seen it before, over, and over, and over again.... lol.. I been shopping in Tesco in Roehampton with your favourite rapper, trust!

These guys man... Channel U... aka... the Gift and the Curse of Music in dis here land. I haven't seen soo many videos made from a £500 budget in my life.. bredda jus don't care.. lol. See dudes holdin camcorders spittin.. nah sir... not inna dat!

Why is it the sole purpose of any "UK" rapper or artist to generally be accepted by America or Americans like that's the "Holy Mecca" of music on Earth???!? LOL... EVERYTIME i see some UK artist or UK presenter *cough.. Ace & Invisible* Cough* come out and ask the "big guest US rapper" "So have you heard any Uk rap?" "What about.. such & such..." Bruv... Dem don't give two hoots about that (IMO). We always trying to gain acceptance in the US market and frankly i'm sick of it... Even dudes in THIS forum come out and ask "What do you think of UK rap?" "Do you like Us?" "WHY NOT!!!?" "PLLLEEEAASE LIKE USSS!!?" NAAAAAAH guy.. me nah beg friend!

WHY IS IT THE OBJECTIVE OF A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF BRITISH ARTIST (Bar a few) TO GAIN RECOGNITION IN THE US? This goes for any UK artists it seems... Why are you deemed to have "made it" if you crossover to the U.S market? Once again i think it comes down to the money

Just something to mull over.... Damn... i'm bored at work :D

Why Would a UK artist want to break America?

Hmmm... This requires some serious thought...

HOW ABOUT fu*kING MONEY?

Jesus... It may not be the artist that particularly goes out to blow USA... But the record company and I know noone is gonna say No to making more £.

Plus US and NY especially is birthplace of hip hop... Its a great place...

N' we all know there is little money to be made out of the scene... Hence Skinny gettin caughht shottin weed lol... But maybe they do it for more than just the papes?

I don't really get what your post is trying to say...

N you've never heard of Pro Green? Where you been the last year?

hhahahaha.. ay bwoy... i'm sayin, artists who aspire to be like our U.S counterparts. That is to say, artists who don't really even care about the U.K market and aim specifically for U.S markets, when they don't sell here because people can see through the facades. I find it a little baffling that an artist would try and cater towards a non-existent market, believing if they portray themselves or direct what they are doing solely with the hope of "crossing over", then i believe that it is counterproductive, and only seems to belittle the work of others on this scene who believe in maintaing musical integrity, that is to say, THOSE WHO ARE NOT BLINDED BY THE MONEY.

I totally agree with the point you raised regarding the record companies. I think these artists may be chosing the wrong labels! These major labels realy never had a clue... i seen it with Hijack at Warner... Caveman, Brotherhood @ Virgin.... Fallacy... the list goes on and on. Indie labels such as Nija Tune & Big Dada, Low-life, etc, who stick to producing music which is directed to a target audience, are the way forward. These majors don't really get it... Producing artists whose sole purpose is to be a "star" in someone elses backyard, when they haven't even made any relevant noise in their own.

As for Professor Green, can't say i have heard of him really. Like i mentioned, there's ALWAYS some new cat comin out who makes noise for a bit, then fades away... as i mentioned, seen it countless times before. I Admit i don't have the passion to really attend any events lately (since the last year ironically enough!). Before you would catch me at lots of different events all over the place. Still haven't heard of him, but good luck to him! I'm all for an aspiring artist, as i meet them alllll the time, just hope they can be happy doing what they're doing. That's all i ever wanted to see... an artist who is happy being themself... is that too much to ask i say!!?

In hindsight, this post was more of a incoherent rant than anything in particular, as i raised several non-specific points regarding the UK industry. Take it as merely hot air...

Peace

Well Pro Green is prolly most famous battle MC in England so if you haven't been to any battles or whatever then you won't have heard of him.

Of course the MCs are going to the wrong labels. Major labels have NEVER cared about hip hop in UK or US.

look the uk music industry dosnt want to sign or promote a real urban act and no one supports there own here people would rater buy the new nelly cd than the new kano and im not talkin about u lot here in BX im talkin about the people who go to hmv and buy singles and albums ect

the problem with the uk industry they would rather sign some indie people than any urban artist / crew coz there more marketable and will pay off in the long run its a shame wen we get a hand from us people sush as defjam/roc-a-fella/whoever they are intrested in artists we dont even like or people who sound like they lived in usa for over 10 years and are nolonger talkin about anything with realation to us and dont even know the modden slang

people have to make a 500 pound video coz we are all poor and we all have a dream of being the next thing u can say well rahh i saw that dude on cannel u and now he works in currys but still we all got to pay bills and we are all trying to just live life and try and get some where wiht are music

Forward

The artist with their heads screwed on and a good team and a little luck will get somewhere, the rest wont. Irrelevant of talent thats the long and the short.
