Lady Sovereign To Work With Jay-Z

London's Lady Sovereign was flown out to New York last week – 11th August – by Jay Z and the Def Jam label for a meeting in their Manhattan offices.

The climax of Sovereign's trip was a meeting with Jay-Z and Def Jam chairman La Reid, joined by Usher and latest Def Jam sensation Tiarra. After some time getting to know each other Jay-Z surprised Sovereign by requesting an impromptu performance for the all-star audience. Sovereign, albeit a little nervous, rose to the challenge and spat out three very funny verses.......leaving the multi platinum audience wanting more.

After an hour or so, Sovereign had won over Jay-Z, who was very taken with Sov and promised to get her into the studio to start cutting some tracks with Missy Elliott and The Neptunes as soon as possible. In the meantime Sovereign continues negotiations with Def Jam subsidiary, Jay-Z's new label La Familia for her future US releases. Sovereign's first US single is coming out on Chocolate Industries, remixed by Ad Rock from the Beastie Boys.

Back in the U.K., following her recent Top 30 hit '9-5', Sovereign releases her new Basement Jaxx produced single 'Hoodie' on November 7th. Her debut album will follow early next year for Island Records.

Not a huge fan of Lady Sov, but atleast it looks like giving another UK Hip Hop artist some exposure in America. Good for her thats she's hooking up with Neptunes and Missy.
