The Mobo's arent what they use to be, but its good to see some UK hip hop acts getting nominated.

UK Act of the Year

Estelle, Kano, Joss Stone, Lemar, Roll Dep

UK Newcomer

Kano, Lethal Bizzle, Nate James, Roll Deep, Sway

Best Album

Common, Kano, John Legend, Lemar, Mariah Carey

Best Hip Hop

50 Cent, Blak Twang, Roots Manuva, Sway, The Game, Nate James (wtf in hip hop)

Best R&B

Ciara, John Legend, Lemar, Mariah Carey, Terri Walker

Best Reggae

Damian Marley, I-Wayne, Richie Spice, Sean Paul, Daddy Yankee

So what you think of these nominations, personally i think the more UK acts the better for promoting the scene.

Prop me if the info is usefull

I don't know about this... I'm kind of critical about some of the presentors that they get in from the States, plus for the last few years, they just been giving all the awards to U.S acts (which they never used to do). When they first started out, they were giving awards to Blak Twang & Roots Manuva, now certain categories have merged and after Joss Stone (i like some of her music) won last year... well... I'm just not interested anymore....lol. But thanks for posting this...

Why am I not surprised. Them UK artists barely have a month on their LP's, and they're sh*t. I doubt Terri Walker will win, but if she did I wont be surprised. She was robbed last time around.

Sway shouldnt even be on there, lets be real. He hasnt released an album so why is he up for an award? Skinnyman deserves that Best Hip-Hop award. The fu*k is Nate James doin' on there?

But overall this sh*t is just ticking boxes and filling places. F U C K THAT!

Why give props to artists who do not even had an album out *cough* Mr James is the biggest joke...best newcomer and hip hop....pur-lease. This is what i expect from the Brit awards....artists who are totally in the wrong category....pfff.
I agree the more U.K acts the more promo FOR U.K acts....however...the list above seems as if there were some palm rubbing to get certain artists on the list....i refer to Mr James on Universal.

If Kano, Sway, Blak Twang wins - I'd be more than happy...

But they won't.

MOBO's is complete sh*t.

Lemar leads Mobo nominations
25 August 2005 - 10:17:24

Lemar is leading this year's Mobo Awards trail with a total five nominations.

The track If There's Any Justice is up for Best Single and Best Video, while the singer is also in competition with Joss Stone for Best UK Act of the Year, and is also nominated for Best Album and Best R&B Act.

UK Newcomer Kano is up for four awards, among them Best UK Act of the Year and Best Newcomer, for which he will go up against independently-signed British artist and producer, Sway, who performed at the nominations party in London last night.

Founder Kanya King says, "I am pleased to see so much UK talent nominated. The fact that the industry has recognised British acts this year says a lot about these artists and the quality of the work they are producing."

Also nominated are US stars John Legend, Mariah Carey and 50 Cent. Elusive jazz artist Madeleine Peyroux is up for Best Jazz Act and Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg and Jamiroquai will battle it out for Best Video.

There will also be a special Best African Music award, voted for in Africa, to mark the Mobo's tenth anniversary.

Planned to coincide with Mobo's tenth year is a website featuring career advice from industry experts and a scheme with Save the Children to promote awareness of their malarial campaign. Children will be able to win a competition to go backstage at the Mobo Awards and meet some of the artists.

King says, "Our motto, in the tenth year of the Mobo Awards, is honouring the past, inspiring the future. The Mobo's isn't just about music, we are always doing so much more."

Since when did Zane lowe have anything to do with 'urban' music....aint he the grunge king who likes his hip-hop[throws on a tune every now and again....basically a male version of Jo Whiley?

Lethal Bizzle

^No you're prety much right.

He just puts on anything underground and altrenative like John Peel did. IE: 1 hip hop tune a show or whatever.

He's good at what he does but 'urban'? No.

kool thanks for putting me 100% str8...since i knew he cud not have changed his musical tastes in the last yr that drastically?
He was forever on MTV2 presenting and always the 'cool' guy of alternative music. Agrees he is good at what he does.

If anyone can be bothered....list who u would like to win/u think deserves to win from each category. I've got things to do, but will be back to contribute when i have time.

Yep as LB said...

They would've been better off getting Giles Peterson on that list, or giving him a lifetime achievement award or something.

Edit: Damn... just looked over the list again and seen "Giles Peterson"... lol. I'm going to sleep now... zzz
