Its not the way forward for uk hiphop. UK hiphop will never be big no matter what people say. I like Grime alot but it just wont ever be big, maybe once in a while a crew or someone can break through like So Solid or Dizzee but thats about it. How can Grime ever be big when grime artists change there style and go commercial for there albums like Kano and Roll Deep.

Whoa... I haven't seen a thread like this fro what.. 2 days?

LOL

But anyway, I fu*k with some grime, Kano, bit of Roll Deep n Dizzee but that's about it...

Mainly cuz I'm not from London and grime doesn't get much time where I'm from.

I respect the fact it's truly British and they are original but the lyrics on the whole, are fu*king terrible and most of the beats could be done better with Fruity Loops... As I said there are some producers and lyricists out there, Kano, Dizzee, Wiley, Da Vinche so why can't the rest of the scene pick up where these guys left off :(

To be fair i listen to alot of grime and i agree with what uve said about it being underproduced to an extent alot of the old grime is over some of the worst production ive ever heard but with the new wave of grime stuff out the production is alot tighter even to the point where peoples from the US are loving off D'explicit and DaVinches tracks, and i dont doubt that producers like JME & Skepta are far begind.

And as for the terrible lyrics again i agree to an extent they do get repetative but then grime MC's murk in raves, just like the old Garage MC's used to. However again the lyrics are improving, one of the mc's from my ends wrote a wikked song called "signs in a wifey" about girls relating them to star signs, okay it isnt talking about important things on a level like people like LowKey do but they're far from swag. And King Aggy yes true alot of mc's do chat bout shankin other peeps n dat, but then there are MC's Like JME who have addressed this on songs like "Don't Chat" & "Serious"

Also i think some UK hiphop Mc's are starting to see grime as the way forward such as the Remix of Akala's Roll With Us, (both versions are BIGG). dont get me wrong i do love the UK HipHop scene but i doubt it'll ever break to the mainstream unless or to a more accessable level where grime has unless it alters the way thin are done slightly. Just my opinion though.

Safe to all those that responded.

i think the crapy lyrics talking about murking wastemen and drawing 4 the mash and desert eagles etc makes grime wat it is ... some traks are pure comedy with some noise beat and a swag emceee but at the same time sh*t is FUKING hot... 4 example orchestra borough with mr wong jme crazy... mr wong spits some pure foolishness but his bars make that song.

As soon as grime takes itself seriously it will fall off ... it should stay local.

nail on the head mate i think uk hip hop is at the strongest point it's been since the golden age 89-92 era lot of mc's with skillful lyrics & good production grime is like the clownstep of hip hop ! the only grime i deal with is what i have too wash off after a hard days work!

i ain't feelin grime except dizzee and kano (kano especially, he actually got dope rhymes)

some beats are fire and i wish they jus released instrumentals sometimes, others are lolly pop

btw: what does "swag" mean? like i said, i only been here 3 weeks

Grimes made for the raves though and thats where it works so I can't see it taking the UK scene much further. But look at UK garage, that kinda died out after around 3 years.

theres still a big following for it to be fair, its just not chart music no more. Still alot made and alot played.

PROPS... bruv i've seen it all trust me.

I seen it when breddas wanted to Be Drum & Bass/Jungle emcees, copying Skibadee, Shaba, etc...

Then i seen Everyone turn to Garage and want to be like So Solid & Them dudes...

Now it's Grime & Heads wanna spit like Tinchy or D Double E, Lethal, etc...

It's nothing new really....

When another fad dies out, what happens?!? Everyone comes back to Hip Hop ro RnB again wiating for the next fad... it's a shame really.
